Extend F-Spot functionality

You can add new functions to F-Spot using extensions.

These are the extensions you can install from the main repository. To install them, open F-Spot and select Edit > Manage extensions. Press Refresh and the list should get populated.

If what you need isn't listed here, you can write your own extension or file an enhancement bug.

ChangePath

Author: Bengt Thuree

UseCase: When you have manually moved your photos from /home/<USER>/Photos to /PhotoAlbum and are very surprised when F-Spot can not find any photos.

This extension will make it possible to change the <OLD PATH> to the <NEW PATH> for all photos (and all versions) in your library.

WARNING: To change the path of 20,000 photos took about 2 hours after f-spot indicated it was finished, so run the extension, and then just leave f-spot running without disturbance for a few hours. This is hopefully just a temporary precaution.

DevelopInUFraw

Author: Stephane Delcroix

This extension adds an option to the popup menu, allowing the development of your RAW images using UFRaw and saving the result as a new version. Requires UFraw 0.13 or CVS version newer than 2007-09-06!

DVD slideshow creator

Author: Peter Goetz, original version by Bengt Thuree

This extension will add an export option to F-Spot for creating DVD slideshow from your pictures using DVD-Slideshow. You will need to have DVD-Slideshow installed.

(yet to be uploaded. See bgo#340767)

Facebook export

Author: George Talusan

This extension will add an export option to F-Spot for uploading pictures to Facebook.

MetaPixel integration for photomosaic generation

Author: Lorenzo Milesi

This extension allows the creation of photomosaics using MetaPixel. The created photos will be added as new versions of the source files. You will need to have MetaPixel installed.

PictureTile integration for photowall generation

Author: Lorenzo Milesi

This extension allows the creation of photo wall (or collage posters) using PictureTile. The created photos will be automatically added to F-Spot. You will need to have PictureTile installed.

RawPlusJpeg

Author: Stephane Delcroix

You can merge your existing RAW and Jpeg pictures as multiple versions of the same photo. This will soon be automatically done on import.

SyncCatalog

Author: Miguel Aguero

You tagged your pictures, but forgot to set Write metadata option to store the tags to the pictures? This extension allows to sync F-Spot database information to photo files.

Zip export

Author: Lorenzo Milesi

This extension will add an export option for creating Zip files of selected pictures, eventually resized.

External repositories

To install these extensions, you will need to add a new repository into F-Spot's Manage extensions.

Exiflow

Repository url: http://exiflow.sf.net/f-spot-addins/main.mrep

Authors: Sebastian Berthold, Ulf Rompe

  • ExiflowCreateVersion just creates a new photo version, supporting revision numbers of the exiflow project.
  • ExiflowRunWithExigui opens Exigui with all versions of selected photos.
  • ExiflowRenameVersion supports renaming a version, supporting revision numbers of the exiflow project.
  • ExiflowEditComment lets you edit EXIF comment of selected photos. When used on images that already contain comments, a summary of all comments to be merged is presented to the user. This extension is meant to provide a replacement for Gthumb's mass commenting. It may also be useful for people not using Exiflow.
  • ExiflowMerge is based on the RawPlusJpeg extension, but is able to detect and merge any count of Exiflow revisions regardless of their type.
  • DevelopInUFrawExiflow is based on the DevelopInUfraw extension, but generates filenames conforming to the Exiflow revisioning scheme.

Instructions at Exiflow web site

Bibble 4 (Pro)

Author: Paul Wellner Bou

  • SendToBibbleWorkQueue is an extension which sends all selected files in F-Spot to a work queue in Bibble 4 Pro (Bibble Lite does not support work queues) named "F-Spot".
  • ImportRawProcessed is a very simple extension. It just searches for other files with the same name but other file extensions in the directory of the selected file(s) in f-spot. It depends on your workflow and Bibble settings if this make sense to you. If you store your processed files in the same directory and with the same base name as your RAW files it could be useful for you even if you don't use Bibble.
